Resin Bound Driveways in Bolton and the North West

Resin bound is a seamless finish with no loose stone, laid over a properly prepared base. It is permeable, so surface water drains through rather than running off, and there are no joints for weeds to come through. The aggregate colour is chosen at quote stage. Resin needs a sound base to go over, so we tell you at the visit whether your existing surface can be used or whether it needs digging out first.

Resin bound is small stone bound with a high-strength resin to form a firm, attractive surface in a wide choice of colours. It is permeable, so water drains straight through rather than running off, which is kinder to the surrounding ground, and where the base is sound it can sometimes be laid over the top to keep the cost down.

What’s included

  • A sound base prepared or laid to take the resin
  • Resin bound aggregate trowelled to a seamless finish
  • A permeable surface with no loose stone

How we do it

  1. 01

    Assess the base

Resin needs a sound base. We check whether your existing surface can be used or whether it needs laying first.

  2. 02

    Prepare and prime

We prepare the base, deal with any edges and falls, and prime ready for the resin.

  3. 03

    Mix and trowel

We mix the resin and aggregate on site and trowel it to a smooth, even, permeable finish.

THB Contractors resin bound driveways work in the North West

Why us

Why choose THB Contractors

With over 20 years of experience serving Bolton, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire, we are a first choice for driveways and surfacing across the region. You are trusting someone to dig up the front of your property, or to take a car park out of use for a few days, so it is worth knowing how we work before you do. We keep it simple: a proper look before we price, the base built for the ground we actually find, and the same team on the job from the first visit to the last sweep-up.

  • Over 20 years’ experience

Two decades laying driveways, patios and commercial surfaces across the North West, with a reputation built on quality workmanship and reliable, tidy jobs.

  • A written, itemised quote

You get the price in writing after a site visit, so there are no surprises once the job starts.

  • The base done properly

Most surfaces fail from underneath. We build the base for the ground we find, not a one-size dig-out.

  • The same people throughout

You deal with the same team from the quote to the day the job finishes.

  • Domestic and commercial

From a single driveway to a full car park, priced and planned the same careful way.

The price

What affects the price

Every job is quoted after a free site visit, so the price fits the work in front of us rather than a guess off a description. The main things that move the figure:

  • Whether a new base is needed or an existing one can be used
  • The area and the aggregate chosen
  • Edge detailing and falls
  • Access for mixing and materials

Common questions

Is resin bound permeable?

Yes. Resin bound is laid over a permeable base so surface water soaks through rather than running off, which usually avoids the need for extra works.

Does resin fade or go loose?

Resin bound is a fixed, trowelled surface, so there is no loose stone. A quality UV-stable resin holds its colour; we go through the options at the visit.

Can resin be laid over my existing driveway?

Only where the surface underneath is sound and well drained. Where it is not, we prepare or replace the base first — laying resin over a failing base is a false economy.

How long does a resin driveway take?

Once the base is ready the resin itself is laid quickly, often in a day for a typical drive. We confirm the full timeline, base included, with the quote.

Is resin slippery when wet?

No. The stone gives a naturally textured, grippy finish, and the permeable surface sheds surface water rather than holding it.
