Patios in Wigan and the surrounding area
Nobody wants a patio that puddles in the middle and rocks when you walk on it, and both come from the same place: a thin bed and falls that were never set. We set both properly before a slab is laid. A patio in Wigan is built on the same principles as a driveway, so we excavate, build the base, set the falls away from the building, then lay the slabs. You can have natural stone, concrete paving or porcelain, with steps and edging tied in.
A well-built patio gives you extra outdoor living space and somewhere to relax, whether that is a family barbecue or a quiet corner of the garden. We lay patios in Indian sandstone, porcelain and block paving, chosen with you to suit the house, and a good one adds real value as well as kerb appeal.
What’s included
- Excavation and a compacted base
- Falls set away from the building
- Slabs laid on a full mortar bed
- Pointing, edging and any steps
- Natural stone, concrete paving or porcelain
How we do it
- 01
Set out and dig
We set the patio out, excavate, and build the base with the falls running away from the house.
- 02
Lay on a full bed
We lay each slab on a full mortar bed rather than dabs, so nothing rocks or lifts later.
- 03
Point and finish
We point the joints, finish the edges, and tie the patio into steps as needed.

Why us
Why choose THB Contractors
We have been laying driveways and surfacing in Wigan and across Bolton, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire for over 20 years. You are trusting someone to dig up the front of your property, or to take a car park out of use for a few days, so it is worth knowing how we work first. We look at the job properly before we price it, we build the base for the ground we actually find, and the same team is with you from the first visit to the last sweep-up.
Wigan and the WN1 postcodes are somewhere we work regularly. Our base is in Bolton, covering Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire, and that takes in Hindley, Ince-in-Makerfield, Aspull, Orrell and Pemberton. All of them are covered from the same base as the town.
Over 20 years’ experience
We have laid driveways, patios and commercial surfaces across the North West for two decades, and people know us for quality workmanship and reliable, tidy jobs.
A written, itemised quote
We come and see the job, then give you the price in writing, so there are no surprises once we start work.
The base done properly
Most surfaces fail from underneath, so we build the base for the ground we actually find rather than one standard dig-out for every job.
The same people throughout
You get the same team from the quote to the last day, so the people who priced the job are the people doing it.
Domestic and commercial
We handle a single driveway and a full car park the same way, planning and pricing each with the same care.
The price
What affects the price
We price Wigan jobs after a free site visit rather than off a description, so what you are quoted is based on the work that is actually in front of us.
The main things that move the figure:
- The paving chosen (porcelain and natural stone differ from concrete)
- The area, and any steps or level changes
- Excavation and disposal
- Access to the rear of the property
